Empowering Communities Through Health, Education & Empowerment

Health for One Million (HOM) is a health service trust of the Diocese of Marthandam, registered on February 3, 1997. It focuses on holistic development, especially in health, with women playing a central role. Founded by Bishop Lawrence Mar Ephraem in 1977, HOM operates across Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, promoting inclusive health and educational services for all communities. The current Managing Trustee is His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Vincent Mar Paulos, and Rev. Fr. Ajeesh Kumar is the Director.

SELF HELP GROUPS (SHGs):

Empowering women through savings, training, and credit.

HOM – Women Development Program (WDP):

Enhancing rural women's skills and income for growth.

MARTHANDAM MEDICAL MISSION (MMM):

Improving health practices and care in local communities.

FORMAL as well as INFORMAL EDUCATIONAL methods are adopted to educate people on Health and development.

Community DECISION is more meaningful than community PARTICIPATION alone.

Developement means self-growth.Community developement means community growth from within.SELF-HELP and SELF-SUSTAINED programmes are the most effective.

Health for One Million, is the health Apostolate of the Diocese of Marthandam, envisaged by Bishop Lawrence Mar Ephraem of Venerable Memory, in the year 1976 for healthy and sustainable development of the society irrespective of caste, creed or religion

Director- Fr. Ajeesh Kumar

Fr. Ajeesh Kumar, Director of Health for One Million (HOM), is ordained in the Marthandam Diocese as priest and has been serving in the Marthandam Diocese for over ten years, working tirelessly to uplift marginalized communities. His theological education at St. Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary ignited his passion for social service, which he has carried through various roles, including parish priest, Local Manager/Bursar of Kanyakumari Community College, Catholic Student League director, guiding students in faith formation and motivation and Regional Director of Marthandam Integrated Development Society (MIDS).

Fr. Ajeesh Kumar holds a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, where he achieved 5th rank in the Social Work Specialization. He also completed his Hospital Administration studies at the renounced Medical College St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore. He is also having Master’s degree in Public Administration. His strong communication skills and compassionate nature have driven him to rescue and support individuals in need, including admitting five street wanderers to geriatric care homes and donating blood 17 times to save lives. His selflessness and kindness make him an inspiration to his community. He is a true beacon of light, touching the lives of many.

As the Director of HOM, Fr. Ajeesh kumar brings his extensive experience in health and social work to ensure the successful implementation of projects that positively impact the lives of the most vulnerable. His leadership is guided by a deep sense of responsibility and care for the community, making him a vital force in advancing HOM’s mission.

World Hepatitis Day: Raised awareness about hepatitis through educational programs.
World Grandparents Day: Celebrated by visiting and supporting elderly residents in need.
